Hand2Hand delivers nutritious food to students who would otherwise go hungry over the weekends. Founded in 2008, the organization had been using donated space until First Companies Real Estate helped them locate the vacant, former Aldi’s building in Jenison to create the office and warehouse space they desperately needed.
Craig Baker, First Companies’ president, helped shape the vision for what the old, rundown building could be. With a plan in place, First Companies Construction rallied the support of many subcontractors and other generous companies in the industry, who provided discounted services and/or contributed toward the cost of construction.
Today, Hand2Hand has just over 15,000 SF for their warehouse, packing/community room, and offices. The project included cutting in additional windows, reconfiguring the front entry, adding an overhead door for deliveries, and installing a new heating and cooling system. The electrical was updated throughout and two new bathrooms were added. The existing warehouse floors were maintained, but the office area underwent a complete refresh with paint, new lighting, updated finishes, doors, flooring, etc.
“From the purchase of the building, to the design and renovation, and all the details in between, First Companies provided top-notch, amazing service! We are grateful for a facility that will allow us to reach more kids in need!”
