First Companies worked with ChoiceOne in Sparta to renovate a building from the 1800s which had already been renovated many times. There was little documentation about the interior of the building due to the multiple remodels of the space. First Companies and the client made the decision to gut the inside of the building in order to understand the actual structure of the building. After knowing more details about the building, First Companies was able to confidently move forward with the renovation plans including a new steel carriage and new footings.
The renovated historical building features as much of the existing building as possible, including walls of exposed brick and a grid system using salvaged tin ceiling. All aspects of the building now meet code. First Companies successfully completed this project in August 2023.
