Located on Michigan and Eastern Avenues, this ground-up, mixed-use project is in the heart of Grand Rapids’ Midtown neighborhood. The building includes a total of 54 apartments with studios, one- and two-bedroom units that offer many amenities, such as a shared rooftop patio and underground parking with space for 60 cars. Modern finishes include polished concrete floors and glass-walled balconies that allow residents to view the stunning sunsets.
Since the building’s basement touches all four property lines, this created very tight construction constraints for the team. To overcome this challenge, Lofts on Michigan was one of the first major panelized wood construction projects in Grand Rapids. The team used 8’–10’ pre-fabricated, fully assembled walls to greatly improve onsite efficiency.
On the street level, Lofts on Michigan provides 9,700 SF of retail space with tenants that include: 7 Monks Taproom, Fzique, T-Mobile, and KMG. In addition to constructing the overall building, First Companies was also hired to manage the build-outs for these tenants.
