Dr. DeYoung is a pediatric dentist with a well-established business and client base. When she outgrew the space she was leasing, she decided to build a new office to suit her specific needs. Dr. DeYoung selected First Companies for her ground-up 9,010 square foot construction project, with a 4,249 square foot basement and 4,761 square feet on the main level. The brick building, with standing seam metal roof, took 5 months to complete and the staff moved into their new office in November of 2011. To ensure the safety of her patients, the project also included sidewalks with snowmelt throughout.

The basement gives the staff much needed storage for the rotating “themes” and decorations Dr. DeYoung uses throughout the year to create a welcoming office environment for her young patients. Built for the children she treats, the space uses cheery, bright colors throughout and includes a small cabin (built by the doctor’s father) in a play area in the front waiting room. The doorway from the waiting area to the back has a child-sized door to make every aspect of the patient’s visit comfortable. Even the hardware on the consulting desk includes custom toothbrush and toothpaste handles.

The office provides a full array of dental services and includes a pan x-ray room, sterilization center, lab, dark room, office space, three exam rooms and three hygienist chairs, with the ability to add two more when needed. A dumbwaiter was added to transfer heavy decorations and props from the basement to the main floor. Dr. DeYoung’s building is truly unique and built to last; all work was completed on time and on budget.
