First Companies was hired to create what many view as the “crowning jewel” of Ada Village, the new Ada Hotel. This stunning building beautifully marries the past, present, and future to create a unique environment that is warm, exciting, and community-focused – and with all the luxury one would expect from a top-notch hotel.
Centrally located near the Thornapple River, Ada Hotel is a three-story, ground-up project offering 36 guest rooms for professionals, couples, and families looking to enjoy the Village. The first floor of the 38,000 SF hotel features a large atrium with a comfortable lounge, concierge desk, administrative offices, and The Post, a pub-style eatery. On the third floor, guests can also enjoy The Rix restaurant with a full bar and rooftop terrace overlooking the river.
The overall design emphasizes the hotel’s connection to historical Ada. The large map behind the concierge desk compliments the unique topographic pattern on the ceiling as well as other tree-like structures made of white oak and Cedar. Signage for the two restaurants was made from local oak and walnut trees, and the curiosity cabinet on display holds pieces of Ada’s history.
The building itself was made of structural steel with precast slabs and exterior metal studs topped by light gauge metal trusses for the roof. The creative use of brick, metal panels, awnings, and private balconies, gives Ada Hotel the appearance of multiple buildings joined together over the years, which blends beautifully with the style of the Village. All work was completed as planned.
“First Companies exceeded our expectations as the general contractor for the Ada Hotel project. Their craftsmanship, attention to detail, communication, and industry leading quality standards made them an excellent partner for this extremely custom construction project. The First Companies team worked tirelessly to delivery upon ownership’s vision to bring Ada Hotel to the West Michigan community, and for that, we’re extremely grateful.”
